THE TECHNIQUE:
This technique is traced back to the 14th century where it kept on developing using different material like stones, metals and pearls till it reached its peak in Italy during the renaissance period specially in Tuscany where it became more then just a decorative technique combining craftmanship together with Art.

– designing and planning an inlayed piece
– learning about 4 types of wood
– cutting techniques and overlapping
– sand shading and scorching
– inlaying and pressing technique
– sanding and polishing
– finishing

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Takafumi Mochizuki (inlayer)
Born in Tokio in 1979
He lives in Florence since 2007.
During the Year 2008 he learned the skills of antique furniture restauration and of wood marquetry at Master Renato Olivastri’s craftman studio.
In 2014 he set up a shop in San Frediano area, where, applying his method of marquetry not only on classical pieces of furniture, but also on various kinds of objects of curvilinear bent, like shoetrees, hatblocks, light fixtures, coat hangers, etc..
