1971 born in Oldenzaal, lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Evert Nijland studied both Fine Arts and Jewellery at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and graduated at the Jewellery Department in 1995.
He subsequently studied at the Sandberg Institute, the Master program of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy where he graduated in 1997.
Nijland has participated in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions and his work is represented in international private and public collections. Since 2002 he has lectured at numerous international institutes.
The work of Evert Nijland is strongly related to tradition and history.
His jewellery refers to images and themes out of Western Art History, in particular the complex visual language of the ornament. He is doing research on the contemporary meaning of classical concepts such as decoration and beauty. In his work he interprets and translates the historical material into his own, 21st century context.
