The Bachelor of Fine Arts at Alchimia is a two-year, full-immersion program dedicated to contemporary jewellery and jewellery design. The program combines technical training, creative exploration, and conceptual development, guiding students toward the creation of an original and personal body of work.
Students begin with a solid foundation in traditional goldsmithing techniques and jewellery construction before moving on to contemporary methods, innovative technologies, and experimental approaches to materials. This progressive structure ensures that technical mastery evolves hand in hand with artistic research and personal expression.
Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School is an independent private institution, not formally recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR). Our programs are structured at the level of international BFA and MFA studies, but they carry a private accreditation.

The curriculum is divided into six semesters, each designed to balance practice and theory through an intensive, structured, and experiential learning process. Courses include technical instruction, design methodology, conceptual research, and critical reflection. Throughout the program, students are supported by Alchimia’s team of experienced tutors, who provide individualized guidance and mentoring.
In addition to studio practice, the BFA includes study trips in Italy and abroad, offering exposure to diverse cultural contexts and professional practices. Each student is assigned a personal workbench and enjoys full access to the school’s facilities and specialized equipment, ensuring the best conditions for independent research and production.
With a limited intake of twelve students per year, the program fosters a close-knit, collaborative and international learning environment with strong interaction between students and faculty.
The BFA may serve either as a self-contained program, preparing graduates for professional work as jewellery designers and makers, or as a foundation for further studies in the field of jewelry.
Admission Requirements
Open to anyone
Prior jewelry-making experience is not necessary
18 years old
Applicants must hold a high school diploma, and demonstrate English language proficiency (B2) (exemption: English mother tongue).
Academic Structure
The program runs from September to July, with a total of 1.422 contact hours per year. Each academic year is worth 90 ECTS credits, divided into three semesters of 30 credits each, for a total of 180 credits and 2.800 contact hours over two years.

Throughout the program, students are closely guided by Alchimia’s tutor. Lucia Massei supports students in developing their own artistic research, encouraging independent exploration, and strengthening personal creative language. This guidance is offered through conceptual courses, critique sessions, and one-to-one mentoring.

Facilities and Workshop
Alchimia emphasizes a one-to-one teaching approach, ensuring that each student can fully develop their skills and artistic vision. To support this, each class is limited to a maximum of 12 students.
Every student is provided with a personal workbench and torch, along with full access to the school’s professional equipment, specialized facilities and Library.
